Tim has amassed a deep understanding of music from all over the world through his obsession for crate digging, with one of his main passions being Jazz and it's permeation across the globe.
As a DJ he can be seen playing at London’s best audiophile venues, as well as on the UK club circuit His global music platform Música Macondo has been growing from strength to strength. The platform focuses on showcasing music from around the world, through events, radio shows, mixes and now releases.
This year, Música Macondo launched its record label with the release of Yelfris Valdés's 'For the Ones...'. As he always does, Tim will be digging deep into the crates to find the biggest and best beats from Brazil to showcase at NT's and we are excited to hear what selections he decides to serve up.
Below are Tim's 'Coisas', a selection of ten tracks that encapsulate his love for Brazilian music.
"Here are a few songs from Brasil that I love for various reasons. I stuck a few more familiar ones in there like the Elis and Tom, which I just love the story for. Elis Regina had always wanted to record a full album of Jobim's songs with him. This finally came true in 1974, when Elis was celebrating her 10th anniversary as an artist of Philips Records. The label approved the project as a gift to her. The album is full of classics, but it's just such joyful music, so I thought I'd stick it one in there.
"I've also added the original version of Roda by the master Gilberto Gil, there's some Jackson Do Pandeiro, an artist I've explored much more as a result of my introduction to him through my good friend DJ Tahira (check out his work). I've always loved the music of Naná Vasconcelos - in my opinion one of the world's greatest percussionists. And I have put in the full 19 Minute epic version of Africadeus from his 1975 album, which I love, and consists mainly of Berimbau and percussion.
"There's also a beautiful song called Canto de Xango by Baden Powell and Quarteto EM Cy, off their collaborative album which is a wonderful listen. The Milton Nascimento, speaks for itself - really, one of my all time favourites. Then I've also added some contemporary artists in there: Sessa, who's album Grandeza was one of my stand out releases of last year; Renata Rosa's who'se contemporary take on Samba De Coco is just infectious; and the main man, Azymuth Drummer, Ivan 'Mamao' Conti's Bacurau from his recent release Poison Fruit." - Tim Garcia
